2002 USDA and NMFS Aquaculture Data

Joint Subcommittee on Aquaculture's Aquaculture Economics and Statistics Special Project Report for 2002. The site includes information from the 2002 USDA Census of Agriculture and the National Marine Fisheries Service's publication Fisheries of the United States for data collected from 2002.
Additional note: The files below contain a summary of findings related to aquaculture farms and product value in the 2002 Census of Agriculture. Although not directed specifically on only aquaculture facilities, this census did collect some data to characterize the status of US aquaculture. The reporting also includes an economic value for hatchery-reared fish distributed by state and federal hatcheries for the first time. You can refer to the referenced web site for state and county level data that are reported. John Lange of USDA-NASS prepared these summaries. The 1998 Census of Aquaculture was the first national census taken for this industry conducted by USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. Plans are underway to conduct the second national census of this industry to collect 2005 data with a national census in early 2006.
