EPA Information Session
Final Aquaculture Effluent Regulation

EPA ANNOUNCEMENT

Information Session: February 13, 2005 - East Lansing, Michigan
Implementation of Aquaculture Effluent Regulation

EPA is planning a 2-hour information session to provide guidance and solicit feedback on implementation of the final effluent limitations guidelines for concentrated aquatic animal production (aquaculture) facilities. The national regulations will apply to public and private aquaculture facilities that produce 100,000 or more pounds in flow-through, recirculation, or net pen (cage) systems. Pond systems are not impacted by this regulation. The primary audience for this program is NPDES permit writers, owners/operators/managers of regulated facilities, and others who have an interest in this subject.

The session is scheduled for Sunday, February 13, 2005 from 1 PM to 3 PM at the East Lansing Marriott at University Place located at 300 M.A.C. Avenue in East Lansing, Michigan. For more information about the meeting location call 517-337-4440 or visit the Marriott website.

This session follows the conclusion of the annual program planning meeting of the North Central Regional Aquaculture Center.

EPA will provide attendees with an overview of the final EPA regulation for aquaculture facilities that are in scope, and the draft compliance guidance, including practical examples for implementing the regulation, such as sample BMP plans, reports, and documentation sheets.

For more information on this program contact Marta Jordan (USEPA) at 202-566-1049 or John Hochheimer (Tetra Tech, Inc.) 703-385-6000.

NOTE: Prior to the meeting, the EPA plans to post the draft compliance guide on their web site for review. More information on effluent guidelines 2004/2005.
