Tracking Aquaculture Bills
2004 Legislative Session

HAWAII AQUACULTURE ASSOCIATION
LEGISLATIVE ALERT

To: HAA Members
From: HAA Legislative Committee

The 2004 Legislature Session is now in session. HAA will be working with the Aquaculture Development Program (ADP) to track bills affecting the aquaculture industry (either in a positive or negative way).

The legislature has its own website where you can view individual bills, check on bill status or do searches. Go to: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/. Click on "Bill Status and Docs". Enter bill numbers separated by commas, with NO SPACES (Ex: HB22,SB5,HR3,SCR47) and indicate if you want to see the bill status, text, etc. Bookmark the page for future reference.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

HAA will be submitting testimony in writing and, in some cases, in person to support the most crucial bills. Individual companies can also submit testimony in writing and/or in person. Members can also support a bill by calling his/her Senator or Representative and asking for their support of a bill.

HEARING ALERTS will be sent out via email on the bills need your individual support. The turn around time for some of these hearings could be 24 hours or less, so it is recommended that you check your email daily.

If you want to discuss legislative issues, please call HAA President Ron Weidenbach (637-0494) or email hawaiifish@msn.com or Dean Toda at 587-0030 or email aquacult@aloha.com.

If you are involved in aquaculture in any way, these bills will affect you.
Stay tuned and participate! Your support it vital!
