Other Resources

College of Tropical and Subtropical Aquaculture
CTSA is one of five regional aquaculture centers in the United States established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The regional aquaculture centers integrate individual and institutional expertise and resources in support of commercial aquaculture development.vCTSA was established in 1986 and is jointly administered by The Oceanic Institute and the University of Hawaii.

Institute of Aquaculture
An international research and post-graduate training centre at the University of Stirling (Scotland), the largest of its kind in the world.

Australian Museum Fish Site
A host of resources for researchers, students, and interested visitors featuring their "Find A Fish" section which includes hundreds of fact sheets on fish listed by common or scientific name.

Northeast Fisheries Science Center
One of five research centers under the National Marine Fisheries Service, NEFSC hosts "Fish Faq" offering a myriad of answers to frequently asked fish questions. If your questions include "Do fish sleep?" or "How does a scallop move?" or "What is 'tomalley'?", you are sure to find the answers here--as well as many other fascinating fish facts. Answers are thorough, and many are accompanied by color graphics, tables, and photographs to illustrate principles and provide examples.

Environmental Education Programs and Resources
A great site for all kinds of environmental programs including a list of degree programs in the U.S. and some places abroad as well as teaching resources. The site is sponsored through the online National Library for the Environment (NLE) and Rice University. The NLE itself is a free service that includes environmental information not available elsewhere like 500+ Congressional Research Service reports (great nonpartisan summaries of issues). Other environmental issues addressed include agriculture and grazing, air, biodiversity, energy, forestry, global climate change, mining, ocean and coastal resources, population, public lands, stratospheric ozone, waste management, water quality, wetlands, etc.

ENVIRONET
A variety of resources and student activities designed to assist in the study of environmental science.

International Center for Aquaculture and Aquatic Environments at the University of Auburn
The primary purpose of the Center is to improve the quality of life of people by facilitating the sustainable development of aquatic resources. Sustainable development requires that social and economic needs of people be carefully balanced with technological interventions and managerial practices that conserve the environment.

The Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program (PD/A CRSP)
The PD/A CRSP has been in operation for 14 years, specializing in the research and development of extensive and semi-intensive pond aquaculture systems. The site includes an introduction to PD/A CRSP publications and data tools, and a list of aquaculture-related groups. The publications section contains references to all PD/A CRSP publications as well as an on-line order form.

Pelagic Fisheries Research Program (PFRP)
The PFRP was created "to provide scientific information on pelagic fisheries ... for use in development of fisheries management policies." Based at the University of Hawaii, the PFRP researches fish that live in the near-surface waters of the ocean often far from shore such as tuna, billfish, dolphinfish, and wahoo. The site summarizes research in biology, oceanography, statistics and modeling, genetics, economics, and socio-cultural factors, and includes a bibliography of PFRP publications (some available for download in .pdf format) and recent slides from Hawaiian fisheries.
